Partner Spotlight - Small Data SF

A day for devs, AI builders, and data people to share knowledge with hands-on workshops and technical talks

In July, Small Data SF launched as a single day of technical talks and sessions focused on providing a pragmatic lens on the future of data and AI presented by MotherDuck, Turso, and Ollama. Thanks to the overwhelming interest and support, we have now added a half-day of Workshops to Small Data SF on Monday, September 23rd.

The best part? Workshops are already included in your Small Data SF ticket!

  • EFFICIENT DATA WAREHOUSING with DuckDB, MotherDuck and dbt

  • LET YOUR AI MODEL WATCH VIDEOS AND REACT TO THEM with Tigris, Ollama, and Fly.io

  • SCALING SQLITE: BUILDING PER-USER AND PER-TENANT APPLICATIONS with Turso

  • MAKING LLMS GO VROOM: FINE-TUNE AND DEPLOY A FUNCTION-CALLING CAPABLE LLM with Fireworks.ai

  • FROM NOTEBOOKS TO DASHBOARDS with Quarto

  • BUILDING RAG PIPELINES with MotherDuck and Dagster

  • GENERATIVE BACKENDS: AI-POWERED APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT with Outerbase

  • INSANELY INTERACTIVE DATA APPS with Evidence & DuckDB

RAG as a software architectural pattern is a critical paradigm to understand when building generative AI applications.

Join us for a hands on workshop where we'll build off the theory we've learned about Retrieval Augmented Generation, build out some interesting examples using Cerebras for inference hardware and Weaviate for Vector storage, indexing, and search.

This will be a three hour workshop, starting at 5 PM, there will be multiple workshops in these series, each one independent from one another, but will leverage different RAG techniques for each workshop, come for any or all of them.

If this sounds like something that could be helpful for your work, come out, hang with Weaviate and Cerebras, and enjoy some free food!

Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) is the final ingredient that makes frontier language models so powerful. Unfortunately, due to its technical complexity, the technique has remained the preserve of large model builders. Now, new tooling is making the technology more accessible, allowing businesses to train smaller open models that outperform traditional fine-tuning methods and closed models for specific business tasks.

This webinar comprehensively explores RLHF, covering its fundamental principles, significance in AI development, and how it can be practically implemented by all businesses. We'll also dive deep into the operational challenges of creating RLHF datasets, including scale issues, human expertise, and quality control.

Key takeaways:

  • The core principles behind RLHF and how it works

  • The benefits of applying RLHF to your business use cases

  • Real challenges and solutions in creating RLHF datasets

  • Practical strategies for implementing RLHF in your projects

Whether you're looking to implement RLHF for the first time or optimize your existing workflows, this webinar is designed to provide valuable, actionable knowledge.

CreatorsCorner, collaborating with LangChain, Cohere, AWS, MultiOn, Sema4, Avahi, Galileo, Porter, Marly, Senso, Multion and others enthusiastically welcomes individuals and teams to join our hackathon! Seize this opportunity to create cutting-edge solutions that enhance human potential through AI-powered software.

The Challenge

Participants will build and compete, each presenting their ideas and solutions. The challenge is to create Gen AI-powered multi-agent systems that assist users in their daily lives. Projects should focus on building safe and secure AI systems that can coordinate multiple autonomous agents to perform complex tasks, optimize processes, and provide intelligent solutions based on collaborative efforts.

Make a difference: Focus on building AI that benefits both individuals and society. Consider the ethical implications of your creations and ensure they align with responsible AI development practices.

The 2040 presidential election is unlike any in US history. The Republican candidate is an AI named PresiBot, created by a tech startup, KumbAI, who are in deeply over their heads. The Democratic candidate is a fake Native American chief seeking to abolish the United States. What could go wrong?

With PresiBot plummeting in the polls and tech giants like Happinet scheming to take over, KumbAI's brash CEO Ethan Burnswagger and reluctant CTO Arvind Subramanian struggle to keep their company, their friendship—and their lives—under control. But the center cannot hold, and KumbAI, the campaign and America careen inexorably toward disaster.

Fast-paced and dialogue-driven, as befits our ADHD age, 2040 is a scathing critique of the current state of America—from the tech giants' all encompassing empires and the fear and hype surrounding AI to the invasion of the mainstream by ever-kookier political ideas. Set in a dystopian San Francisco in a near future we can all too easily anticipate, it features characters, entities and incidents whose resemblance to actual ones may or may not be purely coincidental.

If you want to have wicked fun while discovering what AI really is, how the tech industry works, where our deepening polarization might lead us, and—most important—how to break out of this cycle, this is the book for you.
