An AI model just disproved an 80-year-old conjecture — its proof runs 125 pages — @dhasandev flags the detail buried under OpenAI's announcement that a model cracked the planar unit distance problem (open since Erdős posed it in 1946, where mathematicians long assumed square-grid solutions were optimal). The model's chain of thought for the proof: 125 pages long.
Google solved 9 open Erdős problems for a few hundred dollars each — @StatisticUrban reports that Google's most capable LLM closed 9 of 353 open Erdős problems, with proofs written in Lean and mechanically verified. As he puts it, this is "no longer just olympiad mathematics" — it's original research, at commodity prices.
Want a frontier-lab job? Learn distributed — @m_sirovatka co-signs Vlad Feinberg's guide on landing a role at a frontier lab, adding one thing he'd hire on directly: deep fluency in distributed computing. If you can reason through the common parallelism strategies — their bottlenecks, tradeoffs, and implementations — you stand out, because scaling good work across more and more GPUs is genuinely hard to staff.
SpaceX is officially a neocloud — @turboblitzzz puts a number on it: the Anthropic compute deal is worth ~$15.0B annualized, dwarfing Starlink's $11.4B (2025) and rocket launches' $4.1B (2025). The rocket company's biggest line item is now selling compute.
The pope's techno-optimism shouldn't surprise anyone — @paularambles delivers the week's best deep cut: people startled by the pope's techno-optimist streak "weren't at the 2018 hackathon at the Vatican building an app called faithbook." The receipts were there all along.
